I honestly can’t wrap my head around how Tencent Penguin Pictures keeps getting their hands on beloved donghua titles like Renegade Immortal. It’s like watching a demolition crew walk into a museum. They don’t understand the art, they don’t respect the source material, and they sure as hell don’t care about the fans.
So why are they allowed to do this?
Monopoly Power: Tencent has deep pockets and massive control over China’s streaming platforms. They can outbid smaller studios and scoop up rights to top-tier IPs like Xian Ni, Swallowed Star, and Perfect World.
Profit Over Passion: Their strategy is simple—maximize views, merchandise, and monetization. Storytelling? Emotional depth? Artistic integrity? All sacrificed for flashy visuals and algorithm-friendly pacing.
Fan Complacency: What really stings is that many viewers just accept it. The ratings stay high, the views keep climbing, and Tencent takes that as validation. Are people not seeing the incompetence? Or are they just too used to mediocrity now?
There’s even growing criticism online about how toxic fan circles are influencing Tencent’s creative direction. Instead of trusting skilled writers and animators, they bend to loud, obsessive fandoms—cutting characters, rewriting arcs, and turning complex stories into shallow fan service.
It’s maddening. Renegade Immortal was supposed to be a legacy series. Now it’s just another casualty in Tencent’s factory line of overproduced, underwritten donghua.
I genuinely don’t understand why no one is asking why the last 3–4 episodes of Renegade Immortal feel so different and rushed. The shift is undeniable. The pacing is erratic, the emotional depth is gone, and the storytelling feels like it’s been chopped up and thrown into a blender.
It’s the same thing that happened with Swallowed Star. Once Tencent Penguin Pictures got involved, the series lost its soul. They turned a promising donghua into a flashy, hollow mess—and now they’re doing it again with Renegade Immortal.
So why is this allowed to happen?
Why aren’t fans calling out the change?
Why does Tencent keep getting control of these beloved series?
Why does no one seem to care that the quality is collapsing?
Are viewers really that blind to the incompetence? Or have we become so used to mediocrity that we just accept it as the new normal?
I’m tired of watching masterpieces get dismantled by studios that care more about metrics than meaning. Renegade Immortal deserved better. We, the fans, deserve better.
